An interview with the multi-Oscar nominated cinematographer

On March 1st, Createasphere’s Entertainment Technology Expo attendees had the opportunity to hear from one of the most talented cinematographers at work in the industry today: Jeff Cronenweth, ASC.

In a discussion moderated by Variety's Peter Caranicas, Jeff discussed his work on his Academy Award nominated films, a brilliant career in music videos, and the successful production company he and his brother launched that boasts major work in spots. Nominated for an Oscar in Cinematography for the second time in two years for his work on David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Cronenweth follows up last year's nod for The Social Network.
Createasphere: What was your very first job in the “industry”?
Jeff: As a child I acted for commercials. Secondly, I was a stand-in on some of my father’s shoots, but more relevantly I worked as a PA and then as the staff film loader for commercial production company Filmfare. I was going to Santa Monica City College at the time I received the opportunity to join the staff at Filmfare and become a union member – which was then a very difficult task to accomplish
