A wise man once said “Time is more valuable than money.” There is now an opportunity for the film community to share their time, and their knowledge, with youngsters who are looking for role models they can aspire to emulate as they plan for their future.
The Creative Coalition, a non-profit advocacy organization composed of members of the arts and entertainment community, was founded in 1989 by actors Christopher Reeve, Alec Baldwin, Susan Sarandon and members of the creative community. The goal of the organization since its inception has been to educate, mobilize and encourage its members to take action in issues of public importance. On July 15th, The Creative Coalition announced they had partnered with the Los Angeles Unified School District to create “Show Biz Gives Back.”
Show Biz Gives Back is a mentoring program that will bring students together with all members of the entertainment industry, including craftspeople, writers, directors, producers and actors. The goal of the program is to provide skill development, role modeling, access and insights into their particular craft. In return, the students will building their self-esteem, improve their academic skills, and set career goals.
If you are interested in becoming a mentor in the Show Biz Gives Back program, please contact Jessica Shoer for more information. She may be reached at:
