ASC Announces Four Cinematogaphers To Receive Special Honors

The American Society of Cinematographers has announced the four cinematographers who will receive special honors at the 29th Annual ASC Awards.  This year's special selection of individuals receiving special recognition include John Bailey, ASC, Bill Roe, ASC, Phil Meheux, BSC and Matthew F. Leonetti, ASC.  The awards will take place on February 15, 2015 at the Hyatt Regency Century City.  ASC President Richard Crudo released the names on September 23rd, stating  "Their artistry and skill reflect s in their body of work as well as in their lives and relationships with colleagues.  We are proud to honor them."

The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to John Bailey, ASC.  His professional career began in the early 70s with a focus on motion pictures.  His credits include a wide range of popular dramas, comedies and documentaries including American Gigolo", "Ordinary People", "The Big Chill', "Swimming to Cambodia", "A Brief History of Time", "Groundhog Day", "Extreme Measures", "The Kid Stays in the Picture", "The Way Way Back" and upcoming releases "The Forger" and "A Walk in the Woods."

The Career Achievement in Television Award will be presented to Bill Roe, ASC.  Roe has three Prime Time Emmy awards  nominations for his work on "The X-Files" and "Faith of my Fathers."  He has seven ASC Award nominations and two wins for his work on "The X-Files."   Since 1997 Roe has shot nearly 200 television episodes for series including "Castle", "Las Vegas" and "Mad Men."  HI's also shot the pilots for series including "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles", "The Mentalist" and "Eastwick."

The International Award will be presented to Phil Meheux.  After becoming a member of the BSC in 1979, Meheux served as  BSC president from 2002 to 2006.  His four decade career as a cinematographer has been seen in films includig "The Long Good Friday", "The Fourth Protocal", "GoldenEye", "The Mask of Zorro", "Bicentennial Man" and "Edge of Darkness."  Meheux won the BSC Best Cinematography Award for his work on "Casino Royale" in 2006.

The Presidents Award will be presented to Matthew Leonetti, ASC for his impressive cinematographic contributions and dedication to the ASC.  Beginning as a camera operator, Leonetti became a full-fledged cinematographer shooting iconic films including "Poltergeist", "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", "Jagged Edge" and "Dawn of the Dead."  His most recent feature is the upcoming "Dumb and Dumber To."
