Imagine standing side-by-side with an Emmy-nominated hair stylist, learning about the latest products and techniques they use on a daily basis. I had the opportunity to do just that when I attended the first “Hair and Makeup By…A Symposium of Film and Television Artists” held September 2015. Camille Friend, the hair department head on recent films including “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay (Parts I and II)”, “The Hateful Eight” and upcoming “Miles Ahead” explained her process behind sourcing, outfitting and maintaining wigs as I asked countless questions and closely observed her work as I literally looked on over her shoulder. In fact, you can read about my observations in this article:

I’m thrilled to announce that “Hair and Makeup By…A Symposium of Film and Television Artists” has returned, this time taking place on the East coast in Atlanta, Georgia at the SCADshow Theater on May 1st! Presented by Criterion Group, attendees of this full day event will enjoy panel discussions and masterclasses featuring award winning artists from film and television, including the hair and makeup artists behind “Empire”, “The Voice” “Guardians of the Galaxy”, “House of Lies”, “Hunger Games: Mockingjay (Parts 1 and II)”, “Black-ish”, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”, “Vampire Diaries”, “Salem”, “The Help”, “Sleepy Hollow”, “Dreamgirls” and “Selma.” The full day concludes with a networking mixer where attendees may meet and mingle with professionals at the cutting edge of the hair and makeup crafts!
After attendees register and partake in the coffee and tea station, the event will kick off with two panel discussions. The first will be a round-up of hair stylist followed by a lively conversation with accomplished makeup artists. Topics of discussion will include how the artists broke into show business, their entry into the unions, the process of acquiring agents and the qualities they look for in key artists they hire for film and TV projects. At the conclusion of the panels, lunch will be provided for all attendees. After an hour-long lunch break, the afternoon will continue with a series of four master classes (a full description of the master classes may be found here: http://www.hairandmakeupbysymposium.com/#!schedule-/cjg9 ). Once the event wraps, attendees are invited to make professional connections at the Networking Mixer. And, after a day of learning about the top tricks of the trade, what’s better than being able to apply them through the use of the premium products every attendee will find in their gift bags?
