Mix Of New And Standards At Creative Arts Emmys 2014

It was a great night for first timers and return visitors alike at the 2014 Creative Arts Emmys held Saturday, August 16th. While some expected favorites walked away with trophies, there were some underdogs that left the nearly four hour long program with statues in hand.

The Netflix documentary special “The Square,” a documentary nominee at the 2014 Oscar Awards had a rewarding evening, picking up an award for “Outstanding Picture Editing for Nonfiction Programming”, “Outstanding Cinematography for Nonfiction Programming” and “Outstanding Directing for Nonfiction Programming.” Director Jehane Noujaim dedicated the awards to crew members who had been captured and imprisoned during their quest for freedom.

“Sherlock: His Last Vow” received four Emmy awards including “Outstanding Single Camera Picture Editing for a Miniseries or a Movie”, “Outstanding Sound Editing for a Miniseries or a Movie”, “Outstanding Music Composition for a Miniseries or a Movie” and “Outstanding Cinematography for a Miniseries or a Movie” DP Neville Kidd, clad in a kilt and wool jacket, was not deterred by the warm California sun. “This has been such a great day, and a great thrill for me. I am very grateful.”

“Breaking Bad” received just one award, presented to the final episode’s editor, Skip MacDonald, who was also nominated for his editing efforts in the mini series or movie category for “Fargo.” “Game of Thrones” left with four awards, including “Outstanding Art Director for a Contemporary or Fantasy Series (Single Camera)”, “Outstanding Costumes for a Series”, ”Outstanding Special and Visual Effects“ and “Outstanding Prosthetic Makeup for a Series, Miniseries, Movie or a Special” The interactive digital experience, “Game of Thrones Viewers Guide” also received a special juried award for “User Experience and Visual Design”

New comers “Brooklyn 99” received an Emmy for “Outstanding Stunt Coordination for a Comdey Series or a Variety Program,” and “Hollywood Game Night” host Jane Lynch received the Emmy for “Outstanding Host for a Reality of Realty Competition Program.” “Orange is the New Black” received two awards, for “Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series” and “Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series”
