This was no ordinary Emmy year. Online services expanded beyond the “special class” categories, with shows including “House of Cards” and “Arrested Development” receiving nominations in acting and below the line categories, including score. The short format animated show winner, “Disney Mickey Mouse Croissant De Triomphe” was created for Disney.com. Reelzchannel’s series “World Without End” received the music composition trophy for “Miniseries, Movie or a Special.” Even Youtube generated content got in on the action: “The Lizzie Bennet Diaries” received the award for “Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media – Original Interactive Program.”
There were plenty of surprises in the winner’s pool as well. A number of previous nominees who’ve left empty handed for years received wonderful surprises during the September 19th celebration. Art director John Janvs, a six time consecutive nominee, received his first award for “MasterChef.” “Breaking Bad” editor Kelly Dixon received her first win after three consecutive nominations. And, Heidi Klum received her first Emmy for Reality Host after four previous nominations for "Project Runway."
First timers who walked away with a statue were also plentiful, including the likes of stunt coordinator Hiro Koda (Supah Ninjas), casting directors Laray Mayfield and Julie Schubert (House of Cards) and art director Howard Cummings (Behind the Candelabra). Even multi – Emmy nominated director producer Steven Soderbergh was a first timer. He received his first editing nomination and win under the pseudonym of “Mary Ann Bernard.”
411 Publishing was on the red carpet of the Creative Arts Emmys and interviewed the evening’s nominees as they were arriving for the celebration. Video footage of these interviews is available on our Facebook page. Visit:
