NYC Television & Video Week will present a special celebrity-filled session at the 14th Annual Hispanic Television Summit on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the Grand Hyatt in New York City.
The event will kick off with a special panel entitled "The Art of Cross-Over Content." WE tv President Marc Juris and Vice President of Development David Stefanou,will join the panel with WE tv’s My Life is a Telenovela -stars Maria “Raquenel” Portillo, Sissi Fleitas, and Enrique Sapene. This star-studded super session will take viewers behind the drama, intrigue, and betrayal that occurs both on and off-screen in Latino Hollywood. The panel will also address business strategies and the creative challenges of entering into the world of “Hispanic” television with the cross-over of traditional Hispanic telenovelas taking on new life for English-language networks i.e. network shows like Telenovela and Jane the Virgin taking nontraditional primetime spots.The Hispanic Television Summit will also present additional programming that focuses on expanding the business environment of Hispanic TV and Video for a growing market segment. Topics will include advertising, content distribution, marketing promotions, as well as a focus on programming including sports, news and reality TV genres, as well as telenovelas, musical concerts, award shows and comedies. In addition to the informative presentations, there will also be an awards ceremony honoring some of the most prestigious names, and businesses in the industry.

Marc Juris is president and general manager of WE tv. Since joining the network in 2013, viewership has increased exponentially with a full slate of original unscripted programming and some of the most buzzed about unscripted TV shows in pop culture, from the Thursday night hit Braxton Family Values, its popular franchise series, Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars and its newest hit series Growing Up Hip Hop. In a highly competitive environment, WE tv just had its best year, growing its primetime audience for the third year in a row.
With a keen awareness of marketer and consumer needs, Juris is a familiar and respected name in the affiliate and advertiser communities. A tireless collaborator and team builder, he works closely with business development, advertising and affiliate sales to maximize revenue and drive growth.
A six-time EMMY award winner, Juris is a graduate of Syracuse University. He is an adjunct professor at NYU Tisch School of the Arts and is a member of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences and a voting member of the British Academy of Film and Television (BAFTA).
David Stefanou is the Vice President, Development at WE tv, and is responsible for scouting and developing fresh, new unscripted series that fit with the network’s existing slate of popular shows including “Braxton Family Values,” “Mary Mary,” “Kendra on Top” and the hit “Marriage Boot Camp” franchise.
Stefanou comes to WE tv from True Entertainment, where he held the position of senior vice president, programming overseeing series including “Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes” (OWN), “Too Cute” (Animal Planet) and “The A List” franchise (Logo). Others series executive produced by Stefanou appeared on Bravo, Discovery and TLC. Before True, Stefanou served as VP, original programming at Oxygen where he oversaw the network’s production slate, launching new series “Hair Battle Spectacular,” “Love Games: Bad Girls Need Love Too,” and “Dance Your Ass Off,” and oversaw continuing series “Bad Girls Club,” “Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood” and “Snapped.”
Stefanou previously led the production and development team at MTV UK working on the shows “Kerry Katona: Crazy in Love” and “My Super Sweet 16.” In a previous tenure at True Entertainment as vice president, development, Stefanou led the company’s foray into scripted fare with the Lifetime film “Widow on the Hill” and oversaw the company's unscripted development slate including series for VH1, TLC, HGTV and WE tv.
Maria “Raquenel” Portillo was originally discovered as a solo singer at age 15 by Sergio Andrade, the Mexican producer described as the “King Midas of Music.” She sang with the “Mexican Madonna,” Gloria Trevi in the girl group called Boquitas Pintadas. After her singing career, she turned her attention to acting and is best known for her role on Santa Diablo for which she won the Premio Tu Mundo. Since then she has starred in numerous Telenovelas in Mexico and throughout the Latin world.
Enrique Sapene is a Venezuelan actor who has worked in both the telenovela and American markets as an actor, reporter, and host. He is from a very wealthy and well-known media family in Venezuela. Enrique is a recurring character on “Borderline” and “Hacienda Heights” and has also appeared in the telenovelas Escandolos and “Tómame o Déjame.”
Sissi Fleitas is a prominent model, presenter and actress best known for her work on Sabado Gigante. She has been on the cover of Playboy in Latin America and has appeared in the telenovela Los Secretos de Lucia and various films across Latin America.
