VFX Legion announced Reid Burns, former Senior Vice President of Labodigital, has joined their Burbank division as Senior Vice President of Business Development and member of their executive team, reporting to founder James Hattin. Burns will oversee the expansion, strategic direction and operation of VFX Legion’s feature and television portfolio, which includes projects such as Hardcore Henry, Suits, How to Get Away With Murder and The Purge.
During his time at Labodigital, Burns served as Senior Vice President and led the company through a period of outstanding growth. Burns' career began as a color timer, and over 30 years has amassed a track record of over 100 films across post supervision, color and visual effects. He has also managed laboratory operations at Deluxe, followed by tenures as Director of Global Sales and Technology at Consolidated Film Industries and Senior Vice President at Fotokem.
Prior to Labodigital, Reid was COO at Reliance MediaWorks, a role which included oversight on such titles as Avatar, Prometheus and Men in Black 3. Earlier in his career he founded the VFX and title post production house The Image Resolution and served as CEO of the VFX/DI and boutique post house Ollin Studio in Mexico City.
“Having Reid join the leadership team represents an exciting growth phase for Legion – the most agile and innovative visual effects force on the planet just got a powerful new superweapon," said Hattin in a release from VFX Legion announcing Burns new post. Commented Burns, "VFX Legion has set a new standard for high-quality visual effects, via its global and decentralised remote workforce. I’m proud to be a part of this disruptive new venture, helping to drive the industry in exciting new directions while supporting the delivery of even more cutting edge visual effects.”
VFX Legion is currently working on a slate of current and upcoming projects, including DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder. Burns will be based at VFX Legion’s Burbank, California headquarters.
